Allegheny Ridge Wind
Cambria and Blair Counties, PA
Project Overview
Leeward Renewable Energy’s (LRE) Allegheny Ridge Wind, LLC (Allegheny Ridge Wind) is repowering its 80-megawatt wind energy facility located on 5,000 acres near Portage, Pennsylvania in Cambria and Blair Counties. The Allegheny Ridge Wind project began operating in 2007 and is comprised of 40 Gamesa G87 2.0 MW wind turbine generators. The repowering effort will upgrade the existing wind turbine generators to newer, more efficient equipment while generating more clean energy. As part of the repowering, the existing equipment will be upgraded with longer blades on all 40 turbines while the towers themselves remain in their current locations.
The repowering is scheduled to be completed by late 2027. The repowered Allegheny Ridge Wind is expected to operate for an additional 30 years, providing continued significant economic investment to the community, a substantial property tax base for Cambria and Blair Counties, and generate emission-free renewable energy with minimal impact to the land and surrounding community.

Wind frequently asked questions (FAQs)
What will the wind facility look like?
The repowered Allegheny Ridge Wind facility will look similar to the original project, only taller due to the repower improvements. The repowering effort will upgrade the existing wind turbine generators to newer, more efficient equipment while continuing to generate the same amount of clean energy. As part of the repowering, the nacelles and blades on all 40 wind turbines will be replaced, while the existing towers will remain in place but will be taller due to the improvements. The repowering is scheduled to be completed by late 2027.
How long will the wind facility be operational?
With a repower, we expect to extend the life of the project an additional 30 years.
Who will maintain the property and vegetation?
Allegheny Ridge Wind is responsible for maintaining the wind facility property. We work diligently with consultants and local stakeholders to ensure proper ground cover, erosion and sediment control, and stormwater management.
What happens at the end of the project’s life?
At the end of the life of the project, Allegheny Ridge Wind will be responsible for removing equipment and restoring the site to its original use. Township requirements for decommissioning and restoration will be addressed as part of the local permitting process and comply with existing lease requirements.
